Introduction: What's New in BRCGS Packaging Issue 7?

BRCGS Packaging Issue 7 is scheduled for publication in October 2024, and all audits from April 2025 onwards will be conducted against this updated standard. If your business currently holds or is seeking BRCGS certification, you need to be aware of significant changes coming your way.

Key Changes in BRCGS Packaging Issue 7

BRCGS Packaging Issue 7 brings expanded requirements compared to Issue 6, focusing on areas where product recalls and withdrawals are common. Key changes include:

  • Supplier Management (Clause 3.5.1): Managing raw material suppliers and packaging has become a fundamental requirement.
  • Label and Pack Control (Clause 6.2): New controls for labelling and packaging to prevent errors that could lead to recalls.

Failing to comply with these critical areas could result in non-conformance, risking your certification. To ensure your business remains compliant, reviewing and implementing these changes is crucial.

Transition Timeline and What to Expect

  • BRCGS Issue 7 Publication: October 2024
  • Start of Audits for Issue 7 Compliance: April 2025

From April 2025, BRCGS Packaging audits will be conducted against Issue 7, not Issue 6. This updated standard has been significantly expanded, particularly in good manufacturing practices related to packaging and labelling.
